RL History
Our history goes back to March of 1999, when a group of EQ noobs decided that each of our respective guilds left much to be desired.
During that period of time there were many more restrictions on creating guilds and one of those restrictions were that you must have a minimum of 10 members in order to create a guild. Another of the requirements was that all the members must exit the game and be present in a chat area so that the leader could then propose the creation of a guild. All of the other members had to approve the creation before the leader was then allowed to actually continue with the guild creation process and start entering information.
At that point we had 3 players that wanted to form the guild, myself (Aanaddarr), Qeyn and Leithafae. We three had many friends that were already in guilds, so creating the new guild wouldn't be that hard...or would it?
WHAT A MESS that was...
As it turned out, the day we finally made our decision to create the Gray Council of Antonica we had next to no friends on that were willing to jump ship and help us to create the new guild. We ended up with only a handfull of players, so we started hailing for more. Unfortunately, because you had to leave the game in order to make the guild, very few were willing to give up their precious game time to help create the guild.
I remember that Qeyn and I were in and out of the chat room so often that the few that we could get to join us were getting ansy and we even had a couple bail out.
Qeyn and I finally resorted to offering 5gp for anyone willing to help us create the guild, whether they stayed or not was their own decision.
After what must have been 3 and a half to 4 hours of back and forth and in and out and round and round we FINALLY had the required number of mates. It also turned out that NONE of the players that were required to be in the chat room were actually IN the guild when it was created.
Qeyn created the guild and had to invite all of those that had actually wanted in after what seemed a lengthy wait. The GMs had to approve each guild name manually.
And so, with the guild finally formed, we set out on a trek to create a grand fellowship, with an eventual membership numbering in the mid 80's. We became the melting pot of Norrath, accepting bids from young and old; noob and vet alike. Our only requirement, as it remains today, was the willingness to "heed the call".
Now we arrive in Middle Earth
It is said that the tiniest seed can one day become a great Mallorn tree. With a little care and a lot of devotion, the GCoA can become as grand as we dare to dream. We are a family of friends, committed to the inescapable destiny of hope and goodwill.
